To provide a platform for communication, collaboration, and information access relating to the in the development and use of a global checklist of bees (Apoidea).

Welcome to the World Bee Checklist Working Group

Welcome to the world bee checklist working group site. This site is being developed as a component of a larger effort to compile a global checklist of the worlds bee species. The goal of this site is to create a collaborative platform for communal curation of bee nomenclature and taxonomy.  It will also have the capacity to link specimen references, images and literature to species records.

Our goal is to provide working scientists with a mechanism to integrate a range of distributed workflows into a synthesized checklist of the Apoidea.  A synonymized checklist of the worlds bee species is of critical value for a number of different biodiversity information activities concerned with the status of pollinator species.  An up-to-date species list provides an authoritative backbone around which mobilized data can be structured while the full set of names provides a lexicon through which bee information can be identified from a wide range of generalized data sources.

GBIF is an international

GBIF is an international organisation 642-359 that is working to make the world's biodiversity data accessible anywhere in the world. The GBIF network allows providers of biodiversity information to extend their reach by promoting their data using 640-822 international data standards. GBIF currently serves over 100 million species "occurrence records" through our data portal http://data.gbif.org. This term refers to two broad classes of data: field observation records of living specimens and specimen data originating in natural history
