Welcome to the World Bee Checklist Working Group

Welcome to the world bee checklist working group site. This site is being developed as a component of a larger effort to compile a global checklist of the worlds bee species. The goal of this site is to create a collaborative platform for communal curation of bee nomenclature and taxonomy.  It will also have the capacity to link specimen references, images and literature to species records.

Our goal is to provide working scientists with a mechanism to integrate a range of distributed workflows into a synthesized checklist of the Apoidea.  A synonymized checklist of the worlds bee species is of critical value for a number of different biodiversity information activities concerned with the status of pollinator species.  An up-to-date species list provides an authoritative backbone around which mobilized data can be structured while the full set of names provides a lexicon through which bee information can be identified from a wide range of generalized data sources.
